Ahead of Partial Handover, Parliament, Ministry of Sports and NSA Inspect Completed Stadium Facilities
Members of Parliament on the Parliamentary oversight Committee on Sports, led by Chairperson Hon. Racheal Mariatu Sesay Pessima, inspected the completed facilities at the National Stadium ahead of the scheduled partial handover on Tuesday, 30th June 2026.
Speaking before the inspection, Hon. Pessima said the Committee, which has oversight responsibility for sports in the country, deemed it necessary to visit the stadium to assess the status of the facilities firsthand and report to the public.
Minister of Sports, Hon. Augusta James-Teima, commended the Parliamentarians for the inspection, noting that it was the first time the entire Committee had visited the stadium under her leadership. “Several inspections have been conducted in the past by different stakeholders. As Minister, I consider this inspection by Parliamentarians special because they are the people’s direct representatives. Their findings and recommendations on the rehabilitation will go a long way,” Madam Minister said.
Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq., joined the Minister in thanking the Parliamentarians for what he described as a timely inspection. The NSA Chief said the sector remains committed to seeing the final completion of the main bowl, which remains the major component of the rehabilitation project.
During the inspection tour, the team sought clarifications on several areas, and the Chinese project interpreter, Mr Boson, responded to the questions.
The completed facilities scheduled for handover on Tuesday, 30th June 2026, include the practice field, basketball court, volleyball court, power house station, hostel, and swimming pool.
