National Sports Authority (NSA) and National Olympic Committee (NOC) Strengthen Collaboration

The newly appointed Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Barrister and Solicitor Mohamed Alphaka Conteh together with senior management of the agency paid a courtesy visit to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sierra Leone on Wednesday, 13th May 2026.

The visit forms part of the NSA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and unity within Sierra Leone’s sports sector with full support from His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio who has endlessly supported multiple sports competitions and events locally and internationally. The visit further highlighted the new NSA leadership commitment to building stronger institutional partnerships aimed at advancing sports development, athlete support, and effective sports governance.

During the high-level, constructive engagement, discussions by the two entities focued mainly on mutual cooperation before, during, and after major sport events.

Speaking at the meeting, NSA Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq. expressed his overwhelming gratitude to President Bio for for his appointment and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to professionalism, teamwork, and inclusiveness, stressing that progress in the sport sector requires unity among all the parties concerned.

“My appointment by His Excellency Retired Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio comes with responsibility to restore decorum, discipline, and professionalism in the,” he stated. “My leadership will be anchored on humility, integrity, mutual respect, and the fear of God. Sustainable progress in sports only achieved through unity, transparency, and collective responsibility. I wish to assure the NOC and other stakeholders of my team’s willingness to work with everyone, irrespective of background or affiliation, for the overall growth and development of sports in the country.”

Mr. Conteh further reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stronger partnerships, supporting athletes and sporting associations, and creating an environment that promotes peace, cooperation, and excellence across the nation’s sporting landscape.

NOC President Prince Suallay formally welcomed the NSA delegation and presented the Committee’s strategic plans and priorities aimed at advancing sports development in Sierra Leone. He emphasized the urgent need for effective collaboration, coordination, and mutual support between the two institutions under the new NSA leadership.

“Stronger institutional partnership is critical to enhancing athlete preparation, improving sports administration, attracting international opportunities, and ensuring Sierra Leone’s successful participation in regional and global competitions,” Mr. Suallay said. “I am hopeful that the new NSA administration will foster a renewed spirit of unity, professionalism, and cooperation across the sporting sector for the benefit of athletes and the nation as a whole.”

He highlighted several upcoming international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games, the Youth Olympic Games, and the Paralympic Games, stressing the importance of early preparation and institutional cooperation.

“These global sporting events present significant opportunities for Sierra Leone to showcase its talent, strengthen athlete development, and enhance the country’s international sporting profile,” he noted.

“Effective collaboration between the NOC and NSA is crucial in ensuring adequate preparation, resource mobilization, athlete welfare, and successful participation.”

The reciprocal visits between the two institutions within 24 hours demonstrate a shared commitment, mutual respect, and a clear intent to work together to develop sport in the country.
